For those of you who may not know, Kings of Leon is one of my all-time favorite bands. I was introduced to KOL when I was a sophomore in high school. At the time I was an avid reader of NME Magazine and would often frequent their messages boards. I remember them doing a piece on this American southern rock band named Kings of Leon and I was instantly intrigued.

At the time, it felt like American rock and roll was dead, especially to a 16 year old kid who was obsessed with his dad’s old Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones records. Then here comes this long haired group of family members from Tennessee that wore clothes exclusively from whatever Goodwill was in the area.

I proceeded to buy every single one of their albums and I tried to go see them live whenever and wherever I possibly could. I’ve been lucky enough to see them over 30 times over the years and every time has been fantastic.

Although their music and style has changed quite a bit over the years I have always continued to love this band. Every time they release new music I find myself getting as excited for it as I did when I was younger.

Over the last few days I have been listening to their latest album, “Can We Please Have Fun” on repeat. This album feels like a great return to form for me since I wasn’t the biggest fan of their last album, “When You See Yourself.”

I am only 3 listens into this album, but I can see it becoming one that I listen to all summer, which is a good thing considering my wife and I will be going to see them live in Cincinnati in September.

If you are a fan of Kings of Leon then I am sure you will enjoy this album. If you have never listened to KOL then I think you would enjoy it as well, but I recommend going through all of their back catalog first. Speaking of that, here are my favorite KOL albums (list is subject to change weekly):

  1. Because of The Times (One of the greatest albums ever in my opinion)
  2. Youth And Young Manhood
  3. Aha Shake Heartbreak
  4. Only By The Night
  5. Can We Please Have Fun
  6. Mechanical Bull
  7. Come Around Sundown
  8. Walls
  9. When You See Yourself

I don’t know if, “Can We Please Have Fun” will crack my top 4, but I am really enjoying it at the moment. It’s great to have the Kings back.

If you want a good starting point with the latest Kings of Leon album, check out the first single, “Mustang.”
