On Thursday morning, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers fired head coach JB Bickerstaff. If I’m being honest, this move took longer than I expected.

Bickerstaff spent five seasons at the head coaching helm in Cleveland which included a rebuild. The Cavs went 170-159 under Bickerstaff and won 99 games over the last two seasons. Despite making the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Bickerstaff, 45, finds himself in the unemployment line.

While I’m grateful for Bickerstaff’s leadership, this team just couldn’t get over the hump. The talent is there, but inconsistent play and injuries ravaged the Cavaliers this season. Now, it appears that superstar Donovan Mitchell is entering his final season as a Cav and Darius Garland may be as well.

According to President of Basketball Operations, Koby Altman said the team is embarking on a fresh approach and while he praised Bickerstaff’s tenure, it’s now clear that JB is not apart of the approach.

While it’s way too early to speculate, there are three guys on the top of my wish list to take over the Cavs.

1.) JJ Redick – Likelihood: NOT happening, but would love to see it.

2.) Luke Walton – Likelihood: it could happen; on JB’s staff and has head coaching experience and is respected by the players.

3.) Stephen Silas – Likelihood: if I’m being honest, I think this is the most realistic option. He’s the son of former head coach Paul Silas and has a little experience of his own with a short stint in Houston.

We’ll see what happens, but I’m super interested in seeing the route the organization goes. They have to nail this hire and propel the team to the next level.
