We love a Monday morning Woj Bomb! ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the Cleveland Cavaliers are hiring Golden State Warriors assistant head coach Kenny Atkinson.

As a Cavs fan, I’m a huge fan of this hire. Atkinson is well known for building culture and his players loving him. He’s also created a player development program that many across the league praise. This could be something that pushes young star Evan Mobley to superstar status.

Atkinson has prior head coaching experience in the league. He was hired by the Brooklyn Nets in 2016. He took over a depleted Nets squad that had ZERO draft assets due to the Danny Ainge fleecing from years prior. After winning just 20 games the first season, the following year Atkinson led the Nets to a 28-win season. In his third season running the show, the Nets won 42 games and made the Eastern Conference playoffs. Atkinson resigned from the position of head coach following his fourth season. This move happened due to the Nets being clear with their motives of wanting to bring in Steve Nash as head coach.

Atkinson is a good get for the Cavaliers. He has the experience and is more than capable of getting the job done.

Next up for Cleveland is to extend mega star Donovan Mitchell and improve upon their Eastern Conference semifinals exit in the playoffs.
