For years I have been banging the drum that Ryan Day is not cut out for the Ohio State job. I would tell anyone that listened that he was born on third base and that he was not good enough to run such an elite program.
After another loss to Michigan, I was completely done with Ryan Day. I went on our podcast and expressed my frustration and ended by saying to save his job he must win the National Championship.
Welp..

Here I am standing with egg on my face and a belly full of crow.
Not only did Ryan Day rally his team after a deflating loss to their bitter rivals, but he led them on one of, if not the hardest runs ever to win a National Championship.
His team beat the snot out of Tennessee, despite them claiming they would take over Columbus.

They then turned around and beat the absolute hell out of the best team in the country in Oregon in the Rose Bowl.

Then they found a way to overcome playing their worst game of the playoffs against a tough Texas team in the Cotton Bowl and advance to the National Championship.

They capped off their stellar run and season by beating a fantastic Notre Dame team to win their 9th National Championship in school history.

I don’t care what you say, that is one hell of a bounce back and run and that starts with coaching. It could have been easy for this team to roll over and die after everything that was being said about them nationally, but they didn’t. They stuck together and accomplished the one thing you set out to do as a player and a coach and that is winning a championship. Once again, that comes down to coaching.
I am man enough to admit when I am wrong. I was wrong about Ryan Day. Hand up. Does he need to do better against Michigan? Of course, but he still hung a banner for the Buckeyes and that puts him into an elite group of coaches.
So let me just officially say to Coach Day that I am sorry. I wish you nothing but continued success and I hope you hang plenty more banners in Columbus.
Go Bucks!
