To say the last twelve hours have been a sickening whirlwind would be an understatement. I went to work on Saturday and progressively felt worse and worse as the day went on. My oldest son has been battling a crazy flu that’s been going around so I figured it was coming for me as well. By the time I got home from work and got showered it was all that I could do to walk to my bed and lay down. That’s basically where I remained in a fever-ridden haze until 7 am this morning.

During that time I tried to watch the Royal Rumble, but fell asleep pretty early into it. I had planned to watch my beloved Kentucky Wildcats take on Arkansas, but I slept right through that ass kicking by Arkansas (maybe that’s a good thing?)

Sometime in the middle of the night I woke up for the one thousandth time because of a fever and body aches and chills. I checked my phone and legitimately had over 50 texts from friends and family telling me that my boy Luka had been traded to the Lakers for Anthony Davis. I remember seeing the texts and thinking to myself, “This fever dream is insane.” There was no way this could be true. Why would the Mavericks trade their 25 year old superstar who is not only the face of the franchise, but also one of the faces of the NBA? It just did not make sense. I mean this Dallas team made it to the NBA Finals last season for Christ’s sake.

I think I passed back out and when I awoke again I grabbed my phone and scrolled X for a bit and could not believe that this was actually happening. This trade came out of nowhere for everyone involved. Luka did not ask for a trade. In fact, both sides were working towards a summer Super-Max contract. LeBron had no clue this deal was even happening and that guy is involved in every decision the Lakers make.

According to insiders, the Mavs approached the Lakers and offered them Luka. Not the other way around. Pardon my French here, but WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK ARE YOU THINKING NICO HARRISON?!

I don’t even know how to process this news. Trading a 25 year old superstar for a 31 year old aging superstar is just wild to me. Don’t get me wrong, I love Anthony Davis. As I said earlier I’m a diehard Kentucky fan, but in no world does this trade make any sense. Not to mention the Mavs only got one first-round pick back in the deal. This is just incompetence on a whole different level, but unfortunately it’s something I’m used to with this team.

You know when you’re a kid and you pick a sports team because of a player or maybe their jerseys and you just continue to follow that team forever as they slowly chip away at your life and happiness? (Where are all of my Bengals and Browns fans at?) Well this is exactly the case with me and the Mavs. I started rooting for them when they drafted Dirk. I loved him and Steve Nash and Michael Finley and ever since then I’ve always followed the team. There have been some bad years with the Mavs, but this trade will go down as one of the worst deals ever….quite possibly one of the worst trades in North American sports history.

It’s time for me to wrap this blog up. The flu is hitting me like an absolute freight train. Can whichever sports god I pissed off please forgive me?
