Many people in the national media never believed this day would come, but the Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed both Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
The Bengals now have a core of Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins locked up for the next four seasons.
After months of guessing from all of the talking heads in the national media, the Bengals finally got both deals across the finish line.
It was never a discussion if they would re-sign Ja’Marr, it was more of when. After Duke Tobin told the media that Ja’Marr would become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league, the team had no option but to do exactly that. Ja’Marr will now be making $40.25 million a season, which just eclipsed Myles Garret’s record deal of $40 million a season.
Many people did not believe that Tee Higgins would get a deal with the Bengals. The team franchise tagged him last season and again this season, but Tee showed his willingness to want to stay in Cincinnati. He switched to Ja’Marr Chase’s agent a while back and in doing so, helped himself get a huge payday. According to reports, Rocky Arcenaux, the agent of both Ja’Marr and Tee, told the Bengals that they don’t get Ja’Marr unless they also re-sign Tee.
This move will definitely silence the haters around the NFL world. I can’t wait to watch the narrative change from, “The Bengals are poor and can’t/won’t pay their stars” to, “The Bengals are overpaying guys instead of constructing a good roster.”
I guarantee this will happen.
Regardless, fuck the haters. They always have hated and they always will. The only thing that matters is that the Bengals have their superstar, young core locked up for the foreseeable future and it doesn’t look like they’re finished just yet..
Many NFL insiders are reporting that the Bengals are also closing in on a contract extension with the league’s sack leader in Trey Hendrickson.
This is a no-brainer move for the team. Trey Hendrickson’s production is outrageous and if the Bengals were to lose that, their already non-existent pass rush outside of Trey goes to nothing whatsoever. This move simply has to happen.
The Bengals should not be done in free agency either. By signing Tee to a long-term deal, it actually frees up significant cap space for the team, which I expect them to use. If I were the Bengals I would go lock up two offensive guards and help sure up Joe Burrow’s line.
We will have to wait and see what else the Bengals do, but regardless, this is a GREAT day to be a Bengals fan. Go ahead and hit the griddy at work. We deserve it.
WHO DEY!
