FC Cincinnati came into Saturday’s game against Sporting KC in excellent form, having won their last four matches. They had a really good chance to make it five in a row against a Sporting KC team who has been struggling in the Western Conference.
Here’s how the orange and blue lined up to start the game:

The first half was a close one. FC Cincinnati possessed the ball better than Sporting KC, but both teams did get quite a few shots off. Sporting KC were able to get six shots off, one of which was on target. FC Cincinnati only got four shots off, but three of them were on target including a rebounded shot from striker Kevin Denkey in the 43rd minute that found the back of the net to give FC Cincinnati a 1-0 lead right before halftime.
The second half was more of the same for both teams. It was a back-and-forth game, but in the 78th minute striker Kevin Denkey scored an absolute beauty of a bicycle goal to increase FC Cincinnati’s lead to 2-0.
It looked like FC Cincinnati would cruise to a shutout victory until Zorhan Bassong pulled one back for Sporting KC in the 89th minute.
Despite the late goal from Sporting KC, the orange and blue would thankfully hold on to win 2-1 and earn all three points.
Saturday’s win was also a milestone win for FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano, who is now tied for the highest winning percentage in MLS history through his first 100 regular season starts.
That was a very solid performance and win by FC Cincinnati. That win moved them atop the Eastern Conference for the time being. (Columbus and Charlotte are both currently playing at the time of writing this) Regardless, FC Cincinnati earn all three points and keep pace with the rest of the teams at the top of the Eastern Conference.

FC Cincinnati will now turn their attention to an away game next Sunday against New York City, who are currently sitting in 8th place in the Eastern Conference. New York comes into this game in struggling form, having only won 2 out of their last 5 games.
This FC Cincinnati team is getting better and better each and every game, but most importantly they are getting healthier. I’ve said over and over that if this team can stay healthy they will compete for the league title. They have all of the pieces from back to front and I don’t think they’ve even scratched the surface of how good they can be this season.
Preparation for New York begins on Monday. In the meantime, play Mr. Brightside!
